Performance Series
September 2023,
A three-part study developed during the first year of my master’s program, exploring agency, authorship, and the absurdity of effort. Each piece questions the initiator of action and labor—whether human, object, or machine—and shifts attention to dynamics between body, task, and sound.
HELMET
A found motorcycle helmet became the starting point. I imagined what it means to use protection, rhythmically. Inspired by techno’s mechanical repetitions, I began hitting my head against a surface to generate sound (there is a contact mic inside)
I just reintroduced the body into the loop.
WASHING MAKINA:
A domestic sound system: a washing machine and an electric guitar. If the machine vibrates enough, the guitar strings sound without human touch. If the pickups contact its motor, magnetic fields distort the tone.
“I hate playing instruments. I get anxious. But I don’t mind if the washing machine plays for me.”
I simply connect the parts and step aside. A refusal to be the performer.
BIKE
On a hungover morning, I connected a microphone to my bicycle.
A sustainable power fantasy.
The mic amplifies the friction, the system records the motion.
